Brookhaven is quickly becoming one of the busiest and most popular place to live in Atlanta. It’s situated north of Buckhead, and while inside the perimeter, it has more of a suburban feel. It’s already the largest city in DeKalb County with almost 50,000 people. Although Brookhaven is slightly removed from the city center, it has all the amenities of it.

History
Brookhaven, before becoming the sprawling city it is today, was home to the Creek Indians. The first settler came in the 1810, but it’s genesis was slow. It didn’t see large-scale development until the early 1900’s, thanks in part to Edwin Ansley. It developed more in the 1950’s as middle and upper class families moved farther away from the city center. The final piece of the puzzle was a MARTA stop in the 1980’s. Then finally, in 2012, Brookhaven became incorporated as its own city.

What’s Unique About the Area
Because the city was developed at such a slow and staggered pace, you’ll see plenty of variety in the architecture. Georgian and English cottages are situated together with Colonial homes, Tudor-style homes, and starter homes. And again, because it was originally a country club community, many of the properties have impeccable, lush lawns.
