Buckhead is the home to our two biggest and most popular malls, it has skyscrapers to rival many downtown areas, and is a hot spot for local and visiting celebrities. Behind this bustling façade are quiet homes in a preserved forest setting. Buckhead is a very wealthy area, in fact behind Palm Springs, it is the most has the most affluent zip code in the southeast United States.

History
Buckhead was originally called Irbyville, after John Irby, who bought a large plot of land surrounding the present day intersections of Peachtree, Roswell, and West Paces Ferry Roads. The name Buckhead comes from a story that Irby killed a buck and displayed the taxidermied head for all to see. The neighborhood has seen both incline and decline within the past 100 years, but always continues to be an important part of the city, and a destination for both locals and out-of-towners.
What’s Unique About the Area
Buckhead is a very large part of Atlanta, and within this neighborhood there are 43 small neighborhoods. This large area is also home to a string of fine dining restaurants, a flourishing nightlife, and many lavish hotels. It also has Piedmont Hospital, one of the state’s best private hospitals. Sometimes known as the “Beverly Hills of the South”, Buckhead is the place to go if you are in the mood to indulge.
Architecture
When driving down Peachtree St. or Piedmont, most of what you see is modern high rises. In fact, Buckhead has over 50 high rises within its community, which makes up one third of all the high rises in Atlanta. But behind all these towering buildings, you will find a plethora of large, single family homes amongst the forest and hills of Buckhead.
