Poncey Highland, believe it or not, gets its name from being centrally located near the intersection of Ponce De Leon Ave and Highland Ave. While it is small in size, Poncey Highland is large in culture. With a strip of great restaurants, a large park, and some very notable Atlanta landmarks, Poncey Highland is another area of Atlanta you’ll be visiting often no matter where you may end up living.

History
One of the coolest things about Poncey Highland is that it’s managed to retain much of its original history into present day. The area was established in the very early 1900’s, which is evident in much of the area’s architecture. Now converted into lofts, the Ford Motor Company built an assembly plant in Poncey Highland around 1916. If you know anyone who lived in Atlanta in the past 80 years, ask them about the Majestic Diner. It was built 1929, and is still going strong as a 24-hr diner today.
What’s Unique About the Area
Poncey Highland is home to the Carter Center, which is a non-profit organization founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. The neighborhood is also home to Freedom Park, which has emerged as one of Atlanta’s premier landmarks. It is the largest public park in Atlanta. Poncey Highland is boarded by Inman Park, Virginia Highlands, The Old 4th Ward, and Little 5 Points.
Architecture
Like the businesses, there are many craftsman bungalows still remaining from the early 1900’s. Industrial buildings have been turned into apartment complexes, and with the resurgence of the Beltline, a large amount of new apartments and townhomes are beginning to pop up in the area.
