Virginia Highland, known by the locals as simply VaHi, is one of the most popular areas in Atlanta today. Even if you don’t end up living there, you can almost guarantee you’ll be coming by for a visit. Between the beltline, the intersection of Virginia and Highland, and its annual Summerfest, there are plenty of desirable qualities making VaHi one of Atlanta’s most popular town.

History
Virginia Highland also began as a streetcar suburb in the early 20th century. The neighborhood has been a steady and stable investment area, which makes it a desirable place for buyers to buy homes. VaHi was home to the “9 Mile Trolley” which brought residency to Virginia Highland, much of which still exists.
What’s Unique About the Area
The best way to tell if someone is local or not is how they say the name- there is no “s” on the end of Virginia Highland. It’s a very walkable town that’s bounded by Amsterdam Ave, Ponce De Leon, and Briarcliff. The neighborhood itself is broken down into seven smaller villages. Along with its lush green spaces, it hosts a healthy chunk of the beltline- an old Atlanta rail line converted into a walking trail. The half-mile stretch of Highland Ave between Virginia and Ponce hosts some of Atlanta’s most popular restaurants, bars, and boutique shops. Connected to VaHi are Poncey Highland, Morningside/Lenox-Park, and Midtown.
Architecture
Virginia Highland is well known for the old residences still standing from the days of the 9 Mile Trolley. These craftsman bungalows line the streets that now stand where the old line used to, such as Virginia Ave, St. Charles Ave, and North Highland Ave. There are also plenty of Victorian houses, townhouses, and condominiums within this area.
